Cellist and composer Tom Kersey has earned a reputation as a strikingly versatile and passionate musician. A staple of Tampa Bay's diverse music scene, Tom performs with a variety of ensembles in styles ranging from jazz, rock and avant-garde to classical, celtic and latin music.
Tom's band KELP performs original compositions and improvisations influenced by experimental jazz, classical music, and progressive rock. Currently, Tom also performs with world music fusion group Blue Muse, latin pop project House of Leros, celtic band Tarbolton, and often collaborates with other Tampa Bay area musicians. Tom also performs as a soloist, often with electric cello and a loop pedal, which allows him to accompany himself with layers of musical parts recorded in real-time.
At the University of South Florida, Tom majored in music with double concentrations in cello performance and composition/theory. He has been a full-time musician since 2006 as a performer, composer, arranger, and recording artist/session musician. Tom also teaches cello, composition/theory, and guitar both at his home in Tampa's historic neighborhood Seminole Heights, and at Excel Music School in North Tampa.
